Following on from the release of ‘Who is Willam Onyeabor?‘ earlier this year, Luaka Bop have spent time orchestrating a series of remixes in honour of the man and his work. In conjuntion with Moog the project draws on contribution from a huge range of artists, bringing their contrasting styles to the table to celebrate the success of the compilation. To date the series (which appears to be ongoing) promises to feature the likes of Dâm-Funk, Secret Circuit, John Talabot, James Holden, Optimo, Javelin, Devandra Banhart, and of course Daphni.
There is a video introducing the series of remixes below which has fittingly been edited and produced in a typically nostalgic manner, and somewhat confusingly references TV series Full House.
You can also check out a fair few of the remixes from the Luaka Bop soundcloud page below. In no partiucular order, the versions by Policy, Scientist, Daphni, and Joakim. Some are even free to download.
Moog have also released new versions of the Little Phatty and Moog Minitaur synths in honour of Onyeabor – more information on that here. And if you are lucky enough to be in the area, The Barbican are hosting a party to celebrate all things Onyeabor which promises to feature some very special guests. Tickets here.
