There’s a lot of information on this release that I could regurgitate and claim to be my own. Phrases such as ‘Mister Dynamite’, adulation from none other than James Brown, and tales of chases across Western Africa can all be expected in write-ups and sleeve notes surrounding this release. However it would be much easier to go straight to the horses mouth with the labels press release or the Recordstore article for the all important details.
Originally intended as a limited edition release, the double LP is now due to become the 17th release on Analog Africa in the first week of December. The funk is as deep as expected, the selection is no doubt as definitive as hoped, and the whispers of a summer tour by the man himself still linger on.
For now though, get your ears around the only track to have been made available by Samy and co. at the label, but one of the many hits recorded in Nairobi – Checka Sana.
