Seun Kuti – From Africa With Fury: Rise Remixes

Continuing with the theme of modern cuts that have taken inspiration from (or are based around) some form of ‘world’ music, Knitting Factory Records have set a release date for ‘From Africa With Fury – Rise Remixes’.

A collection of edits by modern producers such as Falty DL, Spoek Mathambo (and many more) the EP contains 6 remixes of tracks from Seun Kuti’s album ‘From Africa With Fury – Rise’ (originally released last year).

A couple of the tunes have appeared on Soundcloud, the first of which to rear its head was ‘Spoek Mathambo’s’ take on ‘The Good Leaf’. You listen below and download the track  for free  here courtesy of The Fader.

By far the more imaginative of the two tracks available however is ‘Falty DL’s’ remix of ‘You Can Run’. Whilst it may stay relatively true to the original early on the feel changes nearly 3 minutes in, the evolution towards a more eerie feel is definitely a positive one. There is no reason as to why this track wouldn’t stand up against many other current ‘house’ releases of the moment, and it is a very classy, tasteful teaser for what is hopefully to come from the full EP.
