Roots Manuva and Wrongtom – Duppy Writer (RELEASE)

It’s a wierd feeling singing (or shouting) along to songs you’ve never heard before, but I like it. Duppy Writer is finally out, and as it turns out the way Wrongtom has taken these acapellas and re-arranged them not only stays faithful to the originals, but has in some cases (dare I say it) even improved on them.

‘World Is Mine’ is a good example of this. Once upon a time it was your classic Roots Manuva track, undeoubtedly heavy but overlooked by many. It rumbled and bounced along in Rodney’s traditional murky fashion, but the reworking by Wrongtom has completely turned the mood on its head.

The anticipation of this album has inspired a massive resurgence in the amount of Roots Manuva coming out of my speakers, and the results are 13 tracks that were well worth the wait. Massive props are in order.

You can access the album from today through all the usual means.
