‘Duppy Writer is a set of re-workings by Wrong Tom. The album (released on 6th September through Big Dada Recordings) takes in all 4 of Roots Manuva’s studio LP’s, as well as ‘Dub Come Save Me’ and ‘Alternately Deep’.
Wrong Tom and Rodney first hooked up around the release of ‘Slime and Reason’. After Wrong Tom produced a dub version of ‘Buff Nuff’ on reqest, Manuva liked the results so much he decided to go ahead with a whole album of re-workings.
Below you can hear ‘Butterfly Crab Walk’, which is the first track on the album. It’s a deep, summertime, ska-tinged twist on one of my own personal favourites ‘Hol’ It Up’. The first time I heard this, my shoulders were out of control!
There is also at least one new track on the album. It’s called ‘Jah Warriors’, its the lead single, and there is a YouTube link below. The sound quality isn’t amazing, but the vibe and lyrics definitely are.
Rodney Smith, big in the game.
