Black Classical – History Of Spirital Jazz (12 Hour Mix)

There have been two positive outcomes as a result of this mixtape being posted online. One is obviously the mix itself, the second was its source – The Jazz Meet - an event and mixtape series based in East London celebrating all things contemporary and classic Jazz.

The main reason for this post however is not the source, but the mix itself – a 12 hour ‘snapshot’ (can anything 12 hours long be classified as a snapshot?) of the history of spiritual Jazz. The selection (compiled by Black Classical) ranges from 1957 to 2012. You can check out the track listing at the Jazz Meet website (I was going to put it up here, but it is as you can imagine, pretty long) however I am sure that even the most ardent Jazz enthusiasts will be able to learn a thing or two from the selection. To get you in the mood however, just be aware that it includes artists such as Herbie Hancock, Sun Ra, John and Alice Coltrane, and Philip Cohran.

Anyway, you can listen to the mix here at the aforementioned website, so please, take your time, and enjoy.
